Updated Ozone Reporting

I wanted to take a minute to thank our partners, Environmental Health Project (EHP), for their diligence and continued commitment to the quality of their work. This year, EHP found an error in the way ozone was reported in our first year reports (Q1-4), and their program manager, Nathan Deron, corrected them immediately. He adds,

“Due to a coding error in EHP's AirView, ozone levels reported as daily maximum 8-hour average values were actually daily maximum 1-hour average values. Meaning, instead of the highest average ozone level over 8 hours, we were reporting on the highest average ozone level over 1 hour. This shorter averaging time meant the ozone levels we reported were higher than the actual values we needed for comparison to EPA standards.

The adjusted reports have the corrected values included. While these ozone levels are lower, they still exceed EPA standards at three of the four monitoring locations, with the fourth location only slightly below the standard. The overall conclusions of the reports are not affected by this change.”

BCMAC is dedicated to providing reliable, quality air data to Beaver County. We want to fill gaps in available data here, and work to ensure everyone has access to clean air and water.

Sincerely,

Hilary Starcher-O'Toole
