Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂)

Nitrogen dioxide is a reddish-brown gas that comes from burning
fossil fuels, mainly from cars, power plants, and factories. It contributes to air pollution and can
irritate the lungs, worsen asthma, and increase the risk of respiratory infections. NO₂ also plays
a role in forming ground-level ozone and fine particulate matter.
Exposure to NO2 can cause irritation to eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. High levels of exposure
over short periods of time can aggravate respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), leading to respiratory symptoms such as coughing,
wheezing, or difficulty breathing. People with asthma, as well as children and the elderly are
generally at greater risk for the health effects of NO2.
Our AQM 65 monitors measure Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in parts per million (ppm)
